Things to do in Bansko

Hello All,
We've booked for bansko next february, Two of our party will probably not be able to do much skiing and, as the rest of us will be spending every possible daylight hour up on the slopes I thought its only fair to try and get them some allternative entertainment sorted out. So has anybody got any idea's as to what they could get up two? Its My 45 year old sister and my 13 year old nephew by the way so keep it clean folks!

Hello and thanks for the replies,
We've booked into the perun, The reasons for their not skiing are my sister having a horrendous fall this year in pamporovo and ending up with two metal plates in her leg and still not being back at work or able to walk properly, so skiing next years a bit ambitious( allthough she's ready to try, Game girl!) and im afraid my Nephew just hasn't took to skiing( hard to beleive but there you go) But to keep the ...

So it would be nice if i can offer them a fun filled week in bansko while we get on with the seriously good sport up the mountain.

cheers again

We stayed at Perun in March. Its a fabulous hotel with 2 pools one indoor and one outdoor. The outdoor one is heated to 40 degrees and is an absolute must. With the outdoor temperature below freezing its a bit nippy out of the water. There are also a couple of steam rooms and saunas as well as a fitness room. There are plenty of games machines etc. A computer room is available at 2 levs per hour but this is not strictly monitored (4 computers) so can be free or cheap depending how cheeky you ...

Hotel will arrange transport into town at 1 lev per person per journey but it only takes 10 - 15 minutes to walk. There are quite a few shops local and tourist but this is Eastern Europe not Western so dont expect too much. There is a bowling alley next to Strazhite hotel but we didnt go to it so I cant tell you if it is O.K or not. The food at Perun is excellent with plenty of choice for both breakfast and in the evening. I do think that vegetarians may struggle a little though, but this would be the same at all the hotels in Bulgaria. There are quite a few people who have been to Bansko who write and read this board so keep in touch.

Hi

Endorse everything Cathy has said although we stayed at the Pirin Hotel. Re skiing if your sister is prepared to give it another go I think she could manage the ski road down to the bottom. This goes from the top of the gondola to the bottom and is an easy blue run through the trees. It is quite long (7 km) so she could take her time and then get the gondola back up and maybe join you for lunch, drinks etc. Regarding your nephew I don't really know what to suggest other than the hotel ...

You will love Bansko. It is a superb ski area and a charming town.

Cheers

There is a ping pong table and I think a pool table at the Perun. I am sure for a small charge you can use facilities at the other hotels. On I think a Tuesday afternoon there is Bum Boarding organised by Balkan Holidays. May the whole group could do this so that your Sister and Nephew dont feel too left out.

Take a trip to the Rila monastary (there is a regular bus service from Bansko). They can even stay overnight in one of the many apartments. I have never been to the monastary myself (skiing time is too precious), but was takling to an Australian guy who spent the night there. He said that it is the most peaceful night he has ever expeienced, and the building itself anf the surrounding grounds are magnificent..

Take a bus to Dobrinshte (cost 1lv on the bus or about 8lv in a taxi). There is a natural spa bath there, that is about 38 degreesC.
For more details about getting around, the lonely planet guide to Eastern Europe is recommended.
