Thomson / Sofia Flight Cancelation

Just had a great week skiing in Borovets.

But a warning to anyone flying with Thomson / Chrystal ... if the fog is too heavy to land in Sofia (it's happened twice this season so far) you will stay on the aeroplane for around 10-hours, get dumped in Greece ... carted off to hotel ... picked up in the morning and left to hang around the airport for around 3-hours.

After that you'll fly to Sofia and hang around the airport for around 2.5 hours and be told nothing as to what is going on ...

After that you'll fly to Sofia and hang around the airport for around 2.5 hours and be told nothing as to what is going on while the rep will be in the arrivals area chewing on a bulgarian bagel.

When you arrive at your hotel around 6pm your rep will say/do nothing other than suggest you make a claim on your insurance for missing a day of your holiday.

When you do get home to make a claim on your insurance your provider will probably disclaim any ownership of the problem as the delay wasn't at Gatwick airport.

From there call Thomson, press 5, and you'll be asked to email your "query" to [email protected]

Apart from the Thomson bit the snow is fab!

19th - 26th Jan thomson aren't paying out

yo yo yo!

anyone else having trouble claiming the lost day's holiday from thomson after going to borovets via greece 19th - 26th Jan 2008??

by the way, if you lose anything while skiing make sure you get a report from the rep or resort otherwise you can't make an insurance claim.

bye bye bye

Surly your holiday insurance will cover some of the costs of a lost day on your lift passes etc, I know our winter holiday insurance does, prehaps worth looking at guys. Good luck but like Liza says its unfortunate but better to land safe and sound than not at all.

Just a note it is not Thomson's fault that they could not land at Sofia due to thick fog, lack of customer care after the incident is though.

2nd that weather conditions are nothing to do with Thomson and clearly anyone on board would want to land safely even if it means missing a few days of your holiday.

As for the customer care following that well that is a different issue - I would have complained there & then not wait for them to get back to you.

Having said that I stopped doing package holidays some 8 years ago so thankfully have totally avoided this Holiday rep nonsence. I recall our last trip to Majorca it was a last minute deal 1st Week of Sept in a 4 star all inclusive hotel, anyway we got a taxi to the hotel even though there was a coach as I knew it was the last stop and would take hours rather than a 20min taxi ride. Next when at the pool sipping a Booze Booze the rep came over and told us that the next morning there would be a welcome meeting and there would be some free cocktails we said great see you there. A lie yes we totally didnt bother and managed to get the best place round the pool & the odd thing is we spoke to others who went and they said the free drink was great - to which I replied its an ALl inclusive holiday & as it turned out we had found out what cocktail the were having and had one round the pool.

From that point on we have not booked package deals - I considered it once as the whole package holiday was cheaper than the flights to our destination so we booked the holiday and never even used our accomodation we just used the flights there and back - it was an amusing return trip though with the rep saying how worried they were. Booze
