Too cold for Snow Cannons

A question not a statement, Looking at the temperatures for next week Minus 8 down to minus 12 in the town! and minus 15 at the top; will the snow cannons work? I have read that they ideally need to be below -3 to work effectively; but will they still do the job in lower temperatures?

re: Too cold for Snow Cannons

Pat, it's better not to count on the snow cannons only. If no snow, they could probably prepare a run or two, but that should be all, and if there are 2 runs opened only you'll see how a big mass of people are trying to use them Sad This is no fun at all. Sad
I prefer to go to a ski vacation somewhere where I can ski on a different run everyday, not to be crowded, this is vacation, not a competition.

Snow cannons can work just fine at -10'C. They can work at lower temperatures but I am told will not be as effective at temperatures much lower than that.

re: Too cold for Snow Cannons

The colder the more efficient.

The colder it is the higher the water content they can pump out and therefore the more snow made.

In Canada/Us they will use them down to -30c.

Dont worry the weather outlook is looking up Wink

re: Too cold for Snow Cannons

In relation to Roger B's comment I think you're right. I was in Whistler a few years ago and it was -19 and the cannons were banging it out.

Lets hope the piste managers (Pamporovo AD?) start to use their heads and get the cannons working
