Train to Plovdiv

Hi all
We fly into sofia in feb and I was thinking of getting the train to Plovdiv. Has anyone tried this journey and if so how did you find it. does anyone know how to prebook tickets as the rail web site does not seem to allow this facility.

Hi,
It's quite easy - and I wouldn't worry about booking in advance. Just get an OK taxi from the airport to the Central Railway Station. You go downstairs to buy tickets for Plovdiv. A first class single is 9.50 leva - I usually get first class as you get a compartment. There's a fast train every two hours or so (the timetable is available in English at www.bdz.bg). The journey takes around two and a half hours.
Alternatively, you can negotiate a cab ride for around 100 leva. There's ...

Best regards,

re: Train to Plovdiv

Thanks for that Nadia. Did you find taxi drivers willing to take on the journey to Pamporovo considering the time and distance, if they do 100 lev sounds very reasonable.

re: Train to Plovdiv

I got the impression that 100 leva was from Sofia to Plovdiv - I think it will cost you more if you want to go 'up' to Pamporovo. But then again I could be wrong!!!!!!!

re: Train to Plovdiv

Yes, Sparky's right. It was 100lv to Plovdiv only. I'm sorry, I've never done the trip all the way to Pamps by cab. Negotiation is everything though, and maybe someone else on the site could advise on the cost of a cab from Plovdiv to Pamps to help you come to a good ball-park starting figure.

Good luck. Wink

re: Train to Plovdiv

Hi Monty,
Yes, I meant Plovdiv-Sofia when I said 100 leva. I'm sure someone else on the site will be able to give you a good idea of Sofia-Pamporovo.
Have a good trip! Very Happy
