Hi
I was in Pamporova for New Year and Unfortunately due to fog, we had to fly into Burgas Airport which is all the way over at Sunny Beach. We waited 4 hours for a bus to take us to the resort and that it took us 8 hours to get there. We have 3 kids and to be honest it was hell! I was in Bulgaria a number of years ago for about 5 skiing holidays and loved every second of it and this was my cahnce to bring the family. The travel was horrendous and really took a couple of days to get over (because of the kids-hard on them). We missed a day and half skiing as well. Anyway enough of the woes - enjoyed the skiing and are going to the Rila in Borovetz on the 13th!!!! Arranged by me again - I really want to prove that Bulgaria is great. I just want to know whether this has happened anyone else in the past and I want to feel confident getting on the plane in Belfast (it was Dublin the last time) that we will land in Plovdiv and I might as well start divorce proceedings now if we end up in Burgas. Any knowledge anyone has on this - I would appreciate it.
Hi Carol,
Just think you were really unlucky last time. I have travelled to and from Bulgaria 15 times Summer and Winter and have never ever been diverted once.
Must be the bad luck of the Irish for once, but I am sure you will be fine this time.
Only ever had a trip like that once, and on the other side of the world. I was boarding in the Australian Snowy Mountains and was due to get a flight from Snowy Airport (bad name to start with) to Cairns. I woke up in Cooma and couldn't out my motel room windows through the fog, so wasn't hopeful for the runway conditions. We were bussed to Canberra which took about five hours, then had to wait a further three on a flight to Sydney with enough room. I then waited for NINE hours for a Cairns ...

The worst of it was, I stepped off the plane, which was now in an area classed as 'the tropics' wearing two layers and a fleece from the day before.
i arrived same day as you after that horrendous trip apparently sophia airport was anmold millitary base and was in a hollow so it could be easily seen therefore more prone to fog if its very clear in borovets more likely to be foggy at sofia and visaversa but ony happens a few times in the season so i was told
