Travellers Cheques

Hi all,

We will be going to pamp in two weeks and seem to have everything sorted except for one thing (i hope). Although we are mostly taking sterling for spending money we would like to take travellers cheques as back up in case of emergancy(dont have a credit card). I went into Lunn Poly to order some and was told that it would be best to get them in dollars. However, i'm under the impression that dollars are weaker against the lev than sterling.
Can anyone help clear this up?

re: Travellers Cheques

From my experience dont bother with the travellers cheques, for the best rates taking cash directly from an ATM at the resort is the best, there are machines in the hotel Murgavets and in the shopping centre and outside the bank by the Perelik.

Have fun Booze

I agree with Geraint, your switch/maestro card gets the best rates, as you get the central bank rate! Travellers cheques are a big no no, I was at Sunny Beach in the summer and generally people were getting 2.3-2.5 leva to the £ but for cash we were getting 2.8 leva!

Hi Louise

If my memory serves me right the Lev is pegged against the euro, so the euro goes up so does the Lev.

It is worth seeing how the dollar is doing against the euro compared to the euro against the pound.

re: Travellers Cheques

Travellers cheques in sterling can be cganged at all the major hotels.
Rates might be a bit less than for cash but my be useful for an emergency.

Louise - will be a mixed group of us in Pamps 17th Jan staying at the Hotel Pamp - where you staying?

Thanks for the advice everyone, my mind is now at rest. Looking forward to a stress-free week Booze

Paul - My fiance and I will be staying at the Hotel Pamp as well, so we'll see you there. Where are you flying from? We're flying from Man to Sofia, and dreading the long transfer time.

re: Travellers Cheques

Louise,
We're doing Manc to Plovdiv so only about 1.5 hours - but me and my girlfriend have our 2 year old in tow so we need all the help we can get. Good news is that mum-in-law is tagging along and will do some babysitting so at least we'll get a chance to do a bit of drinking aswell.
Group of seven of us so far so might see you there.
