Travellers Cheques

Going to Borovets on Sunday, first time skiing. I have heard that cashing travellers cheques can be a bit dodgy, anyone know of any problems? We are stopping at the Hotel Samakov, can you change them at this hotel?

re: Travellers Cheques

Travellers cheques are out of date nowadays. There is an ATM next to the Gondola about 100m from the Samokov. Surely your best bet. I'm not sure I understand the continuing fixation about changing money in Bulgaria; it's just like going to France or Germany or Spain except you get Leva instead of Euros. In ATMs the rate is fixed to the Euro so any fluctuations are due to the Pound-Euro rate changing. It's only money after all!

TC's are no problem, but not necessary.

Take Sterling.............. easier option.

re: Travellers Cheques

Sorry but I was told that I Could not change travellers cheques in Bulgaria, just use the cash machines and take some currency with you.

I am flying out on sat with my son, can't wait staying in the rila this time, was only there not too long ago, you may see me on the slopes with a fluffy jacket on depending how cold it is!

Have a good one x

re: Travellers Cheques

You CAN change travellers cheques in Bulgaria, but usually only at a bank, which can be a pain.
Most people do as you say, and take cash and/or cards.

Much easier and the rate is usually better.
