Travelling to Bulgaria

Just a question some of you regulars to Bulgaria may be able to answer.

We are plannig a sking holiday possible back in Jan only 1 thing putting the missus off though, On our return last christmas we had to travel to Borgas to fly home which was like a 8 hour epic journey through time. Was'nt to bad going home but i felt for the other people coming to the resort. Does this happen often when travelling to Bulgaria???

Please help !!

Hi Chewy,

I never heard (read) this story.
Normally you fly to Sofia. What kind of agency did u use and where you're from?

Belgium greetings

re: Travelling to Bulgaria

We were with airtours uk but all other people from other uk travel companies were on the busses and redirected to Borgas. I want to come back this winter but the missus was not to keen on having a long transfer like last time.

Sounds like you where a bit unlucky there chewy. But it does happen sometimes as the Flying Duthcmen said the snow on runway can be a problem. Also the fog at Plovdiv is a more common example. Plovdiv does not have the ability to guide in aircraft if it is foggy so you will get diverted! Mind you it is just not Bulgaria you can get diverted wherever you fly to just one of those things Confused

re: Travelling to Bulgaria

It was to do with the fog and was just before we went in February. As we were travelling to Sofia independantly and being met by a Bulgarian friend we were a bit worried to hear of this diversion. Apparently, we were assured, it rarely happens and certainly didn't in 2003 and only once as far as I know last year. A matter of bad luck I think!
