Travelling to Plovdiv independently during Xmas

Hi Everybody,

I will be travelling to Plovdiv independently staying at a friend's apartment in central Plovdiv. I will also be spending a few days at Pamporovo.

A potential problem was that my passport expires 14th April 2007 with my travel dates being between 23rd December to 30th December 2006. I believe that current BG law requires a three month gap between the departure date and the expiry date. So that means in effect that the passport must be vaild until March 31st. From this ...
Hi Everybody,

A potential problem was that my passport expires 14th April 2007 with my travel dates being between 23rd December to 30th December 2006. I believe that current BG law requires a three month gap between the departure date and the expiry date. So that means in effect that the passport must be vaild until March 31st. From this I take that I will be okay with my passport when I go out on 23rd December!

Another cause for concern is how I go about regristering within 48 hours of my arrival with the Bulgarian police. I hope that it doesnt mean a bureaucratic nightmare. Do I need to fill the regristration form myself or I hand over my passport to a police officer at the station counter for their safe keeping until my departure from Bulgaria?

Anyway I am really looking forward to visiting Plovdiv and the surrounding areas during the Xmas period. Having visited Plovdiv briefly during the summer of 2005 I found it extremely attractive. In many ways I am more excited at the prospect of visiting Plovdiv and Pamporovo during the winter than going to Sunny Beach during the summer. The trouble is that Sunny Beach is fast becoming the Benidrom of the Balkans these days! Travelling to Plovdiv I trust to see the authentic Bulgaria instead of the tourist version.

Could anyone tell me what the nightlife is like in Plovdiv? I look forward to seeing you soon. Do skoro vizdane. CiaoSega. Regards Shaun

re: Travelling to Plovdiv independently during Xmas

Shaun,

If you renew your passport before you go then they add on the remaining months. ie your new pasport will expire 14 April 2017.

If you are flying into Bulgaria you will be given a registration form on the plane and you will hand this in at passport control. Sorry but I don't know the arrangements if you are travelling by other means.
