Using ATMs in Bansko

Hey guys, would anyone know what the exchange rate is going to be (roughly) if I use Visa Debit to take Levs from an ATM - my card is in euros.

Any help would be much appreciated

The exchange rate will be that charged by your card issuer, as the currency is withdrawn in leva, your uk bank will then convert it at their rate adding on any charges they make, the same would generally apply for credit cards, as your card is in euros you may not get the best rate. The leva has as far as I know got a fixed rate against the Euro and so if you are using this card the rate should be fixed, your card provider is the best person to ask. Finally it would seem that exchanging £ sterling notes (in good condition) at a bank in BG has always given the best rate in the past.

Hope this is some help.

Just realised your name probably indicates that you may be from Ireland??, therefore I would expect the fixed Euro rate will apply to withdrawls, your bank may still make a charge for the transaction, best to give them a ring, they will also confirm the exchange rate.

Not that many places take Euros, and the rate is worse than £, you may be better to get either your Lev before you leave, or get some uk£ from your bank in Ireland. It would be a good idea to do your sums first before deciding, if your bank does not make a big charge for withdrawing cash in BG then drawing from the machine may actually be the better option, it depends how much your bank charges per transaction. There are plenty of bank atm machines all over the resort so you should have no problem. If it helps the current international bank rate Euro-Lev is 1.95 lev to 1 Euro, you will get a little less than this generally.
