I heard yesterday from a Bulgarian snowboarding friend that a fight between Ulen (the new concessionaire of Vitosha) and the Ministry of Environment means that they won't be preparing the pistes this year - like what happened early in the season in pamporovo last year - cutting small trees that have grown over the summer etc. Anyone with any more info? Lewis, you're in this neck of the woods I think...
As far as I undertand, the President of the Bulgarian Ski Federation, Tseko Minev (also the owner of Ulen) has written to the ministry of the environment asking for the runs to be cleaned, as this can not be done without permission as it's a national park.
I'm sure some 'deal' will be done or as last year they will do it without permission and if challenged will declare they are picking berries!
hi, no first iv heard of it sorry !! the fight might be about ulen's planned development of vitosha which they were petitioning for last year to get some support for doing various things like improving lifts etc
by the way if someone can build a complete new chair lift in the seven lakes area and operate it even though its all completely illegal, im sure ulen/vitosha will manage to prepare some pistes and open their lifts at the appropriate time
lewis
its a bit strange really, before the lift you could either walk up or pay the pister machine to come and get you, now the lift takes you to the hija, but i dont think there are any pistes back down the bottom of the chair, apart from the access road/track which isnt much of a run ?
