Got back late last night from Pamps, other than the hotel had a great time, OK the snow cover wasn't great, but it was good enough for us (advanced beginners - mainly red and blue runs).
Can strongly recommend the barbeque resturant at the bottom of the Maugavets - food was lovely and entertainment is not bad.
Joy our instructor was great, can't praise her highly enough.
Top tip - if you are allocated to the new ski centre No 1 - and are staying in the Prespa, Maugavets or Rozhen, ...

Managed to fend of the bell sellers for the whole week, without buying one- Phew .
On to the complaint thought . Having been to Bulgaria before, we thought we new what quality of accommodation we would get. Booked the Hotel Rozhen and paid a supplement for a family room. On arrival found that the room stank of sewage , (it had SEVEN air freshners in the room prior to arrival so they new there was a problem) eventually we managed to track down the Balkan Rep. who agreed with us and after alot of arguing agreed to move us to two twin rooms.
With young kids this wasn't ideal and we requested they find alternative accommodation, only to be told they would charge us £150.00 to move to another hotel that is in our brochure as the same star rating .
The whole hotel smelt of "diesel" type fumes - possibly from a generator, we never found out.
On the whole the quantity of food in the resturant was very limited, what there was wasn't that bad, but if you didn't get in quick they were very reluctant to replenish it.
Enough of the moaning, just to say we all loved the resort and will almost certainly revisit soon. But we will look at a better standard of hotel. I suppoose the moral of the story is you only get what you pay for .
If you've booked the Rozhen and have time to change before you go, do it or you'll almost certainly regret it.
P. Pete, please don't delete this from the board as we have tried to be as unbiased and objective as possible and feel that it is only fair to let other people know our experiences.
I have no intentions of deleting it Kevin. I only delete what is untrue or offensive.
I welcome your comments and pleased you had a good time. It's positive that you did not let the standard of accomodation ruin your holiday and that you intend to return.
My advice would be to choose the Pamporovo or Morgavets next year. Perelik should undergo a re-fit soon, and the new hotel will be open for 2005/6.
Kevin, Nice to hear a balanced appraisal, even though your holiday wasn't perfect.
Later on in the season there will be some people who have expected too much, or let something trivial get in the way of what should be a fun time.
Every time I've been, I've had a fantastic time, but not without some complaint. I should point out that goes for every holiday I've ever had (ever stayed in a hotel in Africa?...LOL). I once had a bath in Tunisia,in what was nearly mud, did it bother me? Nah...We ...

Every time I've been, I've had a fantastic time, but not without some complaint. I should point out that goes for every holiday I've ever had (ever stayed in a hotel in Africa?...LOL). I once had a bath in Tunisia,in what was nearly mud, did it bother me? Nah...We were laughing too hard (new years eve as well). Very briefly, the night that happened, we overheard an elderly couple shouting at the staff, and rep at the reception desk, demanding to be flown home immediatly. The impression I got, was that the lady was enjoying the chance to complain, more than the thought of getting stuck into the festivities (ten course meal that night). They flew home the following day...............
Thanks for the warning, we go to the Rozhen in March. I will get onto Balkan holidays tomorrow and ask them to sort out the Rozhen. Can't change hotels £80 cheeper than anything the same week.(6 of us ) Nice to know that Joy is still fantastic, she taught us in 03. But it wont spoil our holiday, because we love Pamporovo. Cheers Howard
Just to balance it up, and maybe reassure you Howard, I stayed in the Rozhen last year and found it fine ... a bit basic, but had hot showers, clean rooms, a balcony with a brilliant view and satellite TV (not that it was on much other than Bulgarian music tv in the morning!)
My only compalint would be that climb up the hill after a few pints!
Any hotel which is doing knowingly doing anything which may cause a health hazard to their guests need to be taken to task on the matter (rooms smelling of sewage!) and Balkan should get their hotels in order.
No one should be reluctant to make a VALID complaint, although cheap and often cheerful guests should not have to put up with sh1t !!!
