If you are going to Borovets, please be careful where you change your money. Only use either a Bank, the hotel or the crown money exchages....rate between 2.5 & 2.7 Leva to £.
We were ripped off in a money booth. they told us verbally one rate, we agreed. Didn't get the right money and when we looked at the receipt they had actually given us a lower rate. When we complained...were told by a big Bulgarian Mafioso type to go away. It cost us about £40 in the end.

I have just got 2.7 levs to the £ at Barclays today ...only got £50 worth and with commision etc it was £54....and money being transferred to my branch by tomorrow lunchtime....re: currency
MarkUnfortunately the booth you went to will not be the only one. Also beware chaps on the street inviting you for good rates. Only use the Banks and the Hotel Receptions. Must admit far less has been made about this, this year but it obviously still goes on.

We got caught about 3 years ago - same story as Mark. It was on our last night and cost us about £30. The last of our money I might add which really spoilt our last night. However, lesson learned - shouldn't have been been so greedy thinking it was 0% commission or so lazy as it meant we didn't have to go back to the hotel for our passports. AT £30 I'd say a value for money lesson. We could've been changing all our money on the first night and that wouldv'e been a gutter.
