Walkie Talkie question?

AllJust bought some Binatone crackle master walkie talkies.
They have contact distance of about 3kms.
Is this sufficient for top to bottom of mountain in Bansko?
If so is reception clear?
Any advice on use of these would be welcomed.

I have no experience personally... however, Liam's bought some walkie talkies (he asked the question a while ago). Someone answered and gave a good link. 3km is about as legal as you get. anything further than that is illegal - certainly in the UK and possibly in Bulgaria too.Search the discussion board for 'walkie talkies'

There are other sellers, mainly from overseas, who are selling radios that are manufactured for use in other countries (particularly the USA). These radios transmit on frequencies that are illegal to use without a license in the UK. This is why we include this warning here in our ad for UK legally unlicensed PMR's - at least you can now make an informed decision. If you see FRS/GMRS frequencies quoted, then beware. Also ask the Seller if the Ad does not state PMR446. If you receive no reply (or an evasive one), then beware. For more details, please email us and we will supply you with a link to the UK Telecommunications Regulator (Ofcom) website. If you are not a licensed user, then please check that the Walkie Talkies you buy use the PMR446 frequency. All of the Walkie Talkies that we sell are fully UK legal - they use the PMR446 frequency. Used some Binatone ones in Borovets last week. They were OK if we were on roughly the same piste / side of the mountain. As soon as a ridge or lot of trees got in the way they didn't work. They were not as good as I had hoped but on balance I will take them again next year.Bill
