Well what a lovely day....

Left Sofia around 8, got to Bansko around about 10.30. Parked in the Gondola carpark which was nearly full despite the slopes being nearly empty - how does that work ???

50 lev for a day pass plus 5 lev deposit on the card. To the very top of the gondola, no point in getting off at the middle station - no snow there. Up the chair that overlooks Tomba but saw a few peeps struggling and decided it was a bit grusome for the first run of the day so came down the red to the side of it ...

50 lev for a day pass plus 5 lev deposit on the card. To the very top of the gondola, no point in getting off at the middle station - no snow there. Up the chair that overlooks Tomba but saw a few peeps struggling and decided it was a bit grusome for the first run of the day so came down the red to the side of it instead. Went up again and skied down into the little area where the bars are, they just used those two chair lifts for the whole day - loads of different ways to come down, reds and blues. All kinds of snow - thin and icy where the wind catches the steep slopes out of the sun, a bit 'farmers field' near the tops of the lifts (crusty and ploughed), and wet and rocky at the bottom. The sun shone all day and all in all I skied for about three hours which is about enough when I am on my own. Didnt fall! (miracle) not many skiers did, but the the board-stars all seemed a little rusty and I saw a couple take a tumble and two jokers crash into one another.

All in all a wonderful day

re: Well what a lovely day....

I am actually in the UK for the weekend coming - 8 and 9 December - but I understand that this is 'student weekend' at the resorts in BG?

The following weekend on the 16th I will be at Borovets I hope.

Mat, will the students converge into Borovets on Friday as the 9th is a Sunday???
Well, we might just delay our day on the mountain till Monday.

re: Well what a lovely day....

They'll be up for the weekend, so imagine they will go up for Friday as well. Nothing wrong with a bunch of gallivanting, drunken, promiscuous, firm thighed, poor, young totty for a lecherous old dog like my good self. They go for the drinking not the skiing, so the pistes should be OK. Will the mountain be open during the week before the official start or just the weekend? - Bansko webcams looked empty today.

re: Well what a lovely day....

Yea, I noticed there was no one skiing in Bansko today???.
The Gondola was operating yesterday in Boro. All I asked in the office in Borosport was when the gondola will be open and they said the 5th Dec and I didnt bother asking any more Q's. I take it that they mean't everyday. Weve been busy so havent been in Borovets for the last 2 days.
