What currency?

Just a quick question on currency. I’m going to Bulgaria in a couple of weeks and I am thinking about what currency to takeIs it better to take only Bulgarian levs, or Bulgarian travelers cheques or sterling and change it there. Do they charge to convert travelers cheques to cash, etc.
Any thoughts.

take some Levs, sterling is also easy to spend and take a hole in the wall card. cash machine gave us the best rate of exchangere: What currency?
I took American dolar travellers cheques and had no problems changing them into levs. I spoke to someone who had trouble changing Scottish money. Apparently the Bulgarians don't like levs with writting on.re: What currency?
I have just come back from my third time in borovets and i think its best to take sterling and change it there but be carful where you change it, make sure the english notes you take are not ripped or marked and ask your hloiday rep where the best place to change it is. If you are going to Borovets then the Crown cash exchange opposite the Rila is best they give 2.75 Levs to the Pound. Hope thats helped and enjoy your holiday.re: What currency?

We don't get to Bulgaria till 00:50 so I've hunted around to get Lev in UK. Not alot of places do them, including Post Office. Finally went into Thomas Crook. About 2.5 Levs to the pound. Ordered them Saturday hopefully they'll be in on Tuesday.
About the cheapest way of getting money out of the ATMs seems to be via Nationwide Visa card. Does anyone know if there's a Visa ATM in Borovets? If so where.

2.5 is a very poor exchange, you should be able to get at least 2.65.it sounds like a lot of exchanges in this country simply cant be arsed to get Levs in for people.
we used the cash machine in Pamps and got 2.77. spent sterling in one of the ski shops ther and they gave us 2.65, the same rate the bank was giving on that day.

At that exchange booth nothing, just ask your rep for the best dealsre: What currency?
The ATM is down at the Gondala station it takes visa and all your cash comes out in lev.re: What currency?
Going to Borovets on 21st feb for first time - How much commission did you pay when changing money at the crown cash exchange?Did you try any of the big hotels - Rila/Samokov etc?
