What to do with helmets

How do people pack them? In ordiary luggage, board bag, or hand luggage? Can't quite decide what will be best, will they get damaged in hold luggage, the way they throw your stuff around.

I stuff mine with socks, fleece hats etc and then wrap it in a fleece of ski jacket and put it in my check-in luggage. Never had any problems.

Cheers guys, think I'll take Hornsters advice & pad it up & pack it though. Might have problems at customs if I wear it, don't want to hold the entire flight up.

lend it to the people on the bus that dont want to breathe smoke from all the smokers.

God how quickly did that thread get boring? I smoke & couldn't even be bothered posting. A considerate smoker who considers other peoples human rights of course

I always put mine in the snowboard bag in a helmet bag surronded by soft items like clothing. And of course stuff it with socks etc to save space. Alternately you can always get a helmet pod like the one from Giro to protect it.

I always attach it to my rucksack (hand luggage) and take it through that way. Never had any problems with the customs objecting to me having my helmet out of the bag

There are helmetsacks you can get. Its a bag that incorporates your helmet.
The helmet fits in the bottom of the bag upside down and acts as the base of the bag, you can then use the bag as hand luggage for the plane, they are big enough for a PSP and a mag. about the size of a medium hand bag. a really good idea and space saver.
