Where to stay in Bankso?

Hi everyone,

This year our family has deceided to try out Bansko for the first time having being going to Borovets and Pamps for many years. In Borovets we love the way the Rila Hotel is right on the slope and we dont have to carry our ski equipment etc for long distances. Bearing this in mind where in Bankso can we get such good convenience and where i wont have to carry 3 sets of skis at the one time. Please help!!

The best hotel in Bansko is next to the Gondola the 5* Kempenksi but it is pricey. I stayed at the Emerald hotel in March which is under 5 minutes away from said gondala and was also a very nice hotel and lot cheaper than the Kempenski. I am sure others will let you know of similer hotels / apartments close by.

Another option is the Strazhite Hotel which is a 5min walk to the gondola station. I think it is a 4*.

You have to remember most hotels have mini bus's taking you up to the gondela.
Last season I kept my skis & boots at the hire shop and picked them up on the way in. That way a good drink in the Happy end can be enjoyed following a hard day on the piste.

Depends on your budget. We stayed next to the gondola, which is most convenient for days when the lifts arent running (such as in high winds - it does happen!).
It is called the Kempinski Grand Arena. It costs a bit and is completely worth it, when you are relaxing by the indoor pool watching others trudging around waiting for the lifts to open.

There's a little guy, in the ski store who will take your indoor footwear and put them on nice heated dryers, having handed you your skis and boots, in the morning. This service is repeated in reverse at night, so you receive toasty shoes to warm your feet after a days skiing. It's cool. Then off to the lounge bar for a well earned drink, before retiring to the restaurant for your a la carte meal.

Dave - Not been inside it but may try out food there, however I'd rather try out as many mehanas as possible. Lots of local food & drink not a big international conglomerate (German) instead small unusual Mehanas are my treats.

That said in the UK I love to go to Landlord pubs for the real ale and the open fires over any chain pub.

Oh, don't get me wrong, we go out to the Mexhanas too.
We've been there for holidays over the last five years and love everything about Bansko. We kinda saw it in the beginning, when they were using tree trunks as scaffolding poles(health ans Safety would have a heart attack) and when horses and cows were living in the shells of unbuilt hotels down Glazne Str.
We owned an apartment in the Ramada End building and had a clear unobstructed view over the river, till they built across from us. ...
