Anyone recommend a particular instructor to ask for in Bansko?
Went to Borovets as complete beginers and our instructor Camakasee Nick taught us how to fall down a mountain but didn't spend much time teaching us the basics. By the end of the week we could ski an easy red run but the entire group would typically fall at least ten times each on the way. Great fun and what a laugh but I wouldn't mind learning to ski this time!!!
If you could ski down reds by the end of your first week, then I think you learnt more than you think! I know people who after 2 weeks, can just manage snow ploughs on greens. And unfortunattly falling off is just part of skiing.
most of the instructors in bansko are pretty good. lydia is excellent and was head instroctor last season, snedgey is an ex bulgarian ski champion. dobbi (nickname) is a young instructor and a bit of a laugh.
Last year I was in Bansko and Blagoi Kostadinov was our instructor. He does things step by step and is very patient. The English language is no prblem neither. We had a great time with him.
Maybe going down a red run after one week is a bit too ambitious, unless you are very talented.
The red run to which I refer was from the top Gondola to the middle Gondola in Borovets for anyone who knows it. Suspect that this is nearer blue than red?
it has taken me 3 years to be able to ski that run, I find it quite hard but a lovely ski. It was also better than walking up the hill to get the gondala. You did well and will be suprised this year when you get back on the snow how it will all come back to you. have a good time.
We had Plamen last year he was a laugh and had great warm up routine to get you in the spirit, has done some racing as well so is a natural. This year we had Toni he was funny and also very patient and good - mind you his english was not quite so good!!
To be honest they all seemed pretty good - must be cos after two ski weeks we are totally comfortable on red runs and paralleling - no the feeling from last year of falling over ALL the time!!!
I had Marianna (with straight hair) as my instructor in Bansko last week and she was really good. Having skied twice before we did exercises on balance, doing strange things like skiing with poles in the air to improve our parallels, and then moved on to carving.
Although not the chattiest of instructors socially, mainly because of the language barrier, her english was good enough for teaching, and as a positive there was no constant selling, or being taken for expensive meals. She was ...

She was even reluctant to accept a tip at the end of the week, but I really felt she was a great instructor.
we skied down from there and then carried on to the bottom(well the lads in our group) after 4 days and was awesome, all first time skiers so i think we learnt a helluva lot
