White paper exit visa!

Hi

Just read on the beach message board that when you arrive in Bulgaria, you have to hand over your passport to reception staff - which I must admit I am not very happy about doing.

If this is the case what is the reasoning for this "white slip of paper" they put in it and without it you cannot leave Bulgaria without paying a fine???

Any help on this is appreciated - I was under the impression there was no exit visa charge unlike many countries now.

Cheers,

re: White paper exit visa!

I cannot remember going on holiday anywhere when I was not asked to hand in my passport on arrival at the hotel. It was the same in Thailand, Croatia, and in Spain last year. You can pick it up the following morning with no trouble at all. I left mine behind reception for the whole 2 weeks, it's perfectly safe.

There is no exit charge, they simply but it in your passport for you. No need to panic Yorkie.

re: White paper exit visa!

the slip is to confirm that you have been on holiday and not there for any other purpose basically. as for handing over your passport at reception thats pretty usual in alot of non EU countries ive visited. never had it lost yet, infact im oif the opinion that unless i have a safety deposit its usually safer at reception than it is with me.

Thanks Devizes Pete

Your help is very much appreciate, next time I am in Chippenham you must let me buy you a glass of wine Smile

(not all Yorkie's are tight you know!!!!)

In the Dominican Republic, I have always kept hold of my passport - heard some places they can go missing.

Excellent that the paper release comes free of charge

Jason,
Like PP I left my Passport for the whole week, and picked it up a half hour before I left (totally forgot about it!) with no worries!

We were with a party of 12 and 5 of them had thrown the white paper out - the Balkan Rep words of wisdom were "you'd better see how much money you can get together then". We all got through passport control no problem without the white paper !!!!!!

If your kids are on your passport then be prepared for a longer wait when you get to the airport, It seemed to take ages with ours last year.
