Why are snowheads so obsessively excited?

What is it about skiing/boarding that makes everyone I know who does it SO excited? I'm sure few of us watch the webcams, weather sites etc. for our chosen summer holiday destination yet it seems that if you like a snow holiday you really like it to the point of obsession :-)

Nothing, other than riding a motorbike, brings me close to the excitement and expectation of a skiing holiday. We've taken a decade long sabbatical and the only way I could cope with the withdrawal was by not having anything to do with skiing - no dry slopes, Ski Sunday, not talking to friends who had been skiing etc.

There must be something about being outside in clean mountain air, having fun, looking forward to the night life etc. that taps into our hidden five year old selves!

It might be excitment boardering on obsession but it's a fantastic feeling!

I have no idea Jez! All i know is that I've never even been skiing/boarding yet I'm so unbelieveably excited about it!!! Counting down the days!!
It sounds like it's going to be so much fun! I don't even mind the hassle of trying to arrange everything with mates n that! Just every time I think about getting out on that snow my face suddenly grows the worlds biggest grin on it!

Literally can't wait!!!

Well for a start you wouldn't be doing it if you didn't enjoy it. Most of us probably only get to ski for one week in the year. I don't get manic about the odd hour in a snow dome. It's more than just a holiday. I am not medically trained but i suspect that the excersise during skiing probably gets the endorphines (or however you spell them) going and the adrenaline rush etc can give you a bit of a high. For one reason or another I didn't get to ski until I was 39 and had wanted to go from about the age of 15. I'd been waiting a long time and it was everythig that I expected when I eventually got on a slope. I think it also gives you a certain freedom that you can't get at home. So put a few things together along with the fact that I booked my skiing trip a year ago, it kind of makes me a bit excitable.

You are right - it is more than a holiday.

I think the unique thing about skiing is the polarisation. People seem to either really hate it or really love it. I've not met many who have been skiing/boarding and not been at either end of the scale.

Yes Jez I agree.

I think also whilst you may meet people on holiday, in a ski or board class, you really get to know people. This may be particular to BG but in class there, you spend all day with these people and then possibily an evening if you take your instructor out. Kind of adds to the anticipation.

I cant put my finger on it, butI totally agree with the irational excitement that proceeds a ski holiday. I dont get this feeling prior to a sun holiday. There is just something about being out in nature and up a mountain.
I dont even care about why we get excited, I just know that it happens and I love it.

I thik the so called 'winter blues' have a lot to do with it. Everyone else is miserable, Christmas is over, you're back to work, the weather's rotten. But if you ski or board, inwardly you're going YES!!
