re: Works in Bansko..

Why is it news has broke 4months ago before they get hold of anything??? Surely they should be more in the know. Also with Ulen and banskoski.com why are they not advertising the fact and or advertising the world cup etc etc.

Promotion is so poor here!!!

re: Works in Bansko..

A new piste down to Damienitsa? That would be fantastic! Although I'll be gutted I never had the balls to do it before the piste went in...
Nothing about it in the article though.

I do hope that they put in another "travelator" style lift with no better safety stops. I've had some right laugh's seeing people falling off the end of that one before they've got used to their skis!!! Very Happy

re: Works in Bansko..

Yeah, this year for sure. It's a good job I didn't try it last year though - when you told me the route I thought you meant down the other side of the ridge - off the far side of Todorka and round towards Vihren. That could have been nasty if I'd tried!
Will definitely have to get a guide to come - don't want any mishaps like that! Plus I've heard that if even if you head down the right way, if you don't know what you're doing you can be faced with 5 hour walk-outs! Wink Wink Wink

re: Works in Bansko..

Took a drive up the mountain yesterday, a mass of activity at the Shilligarnika car park, pylons and tops being assembled, and further along the lift line up from the gondola is being replaced, new pylons, about 2/3 done, the helicopter running continuously dropping concrete for the last few. The other copter could be heard running on the top lift, but visability was not great from where i was. The other copter could be heard running on the top lift, but visability was not great from where i was. I noted a lot of new tarmac trails going up into the forest at the gondola, new cross country trails that were talked about last summer, supposably a 5km, a 10km and a 15km. Will be good next year to get out on them with the bike, would be good for families especially if they run the gondola next summer...
Its all happening folks, o, and it was snowing yesterday on the top Wink

re: Works in Bansko..

Nightmuffy - just a nasty rumour I heard. But don't worry - if I decide to take that route I'll ask Steve if he can guide me - I'm sure that with his knowledge of the area something like that would never happen to him!
(Sorry Steve Wink)

Great news about the lifts! Is it just me or would it not have been an idea to try and do the work BEFORE it started snowing and the bad weather came? Hopefully it will all be finished in time for the season.

Any more news on Damienitsa? Also Muffy/Steve - any chance you could give me your advice on my poorly titled thread - "What's the latest you'd go?". Trying to decide if Easter is a possibility and the opinion of someone who lives there would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Matt

re: Works in Bansko..

No news as yet on Damienitsa, but watch this space..
As for how late you dare ?? in the hands of the gods mate. Normally the resort will close 2nd week of April, and you are normally fairly ok up to then, especially at the top...
Two seasons ago it was still skiing well down in Dobriniste into May, but not guaranteed...

More evidence of the possible new chair and run off of Todorka. This is a post from Talkbansko........

"We took the dogs for a walk from shilli up blue 5 yesterday, only drainage going in at the bottom, but it was curious around the top.

The placings looked like the new chair and te furthest left would cross each other, which is not possible, couldnt work it out unless they aere intending to move the exit station from the current chair back towards the goat, but why.
When we set off walking down blue 10 we saw a new track cut in the forest off to our right, guys were putting up shuttering for what looked like more footings, and tere was a cable ditch dug, all this directly in line with the other new footings, going down into the forest.
Helicopters were flying but not to where we were, they were going somewhere below us and off to the right.
looks like there may be some mischief going on."

We will keep you posted!!
