Xscape - Castleford

As a first time skier, I thought that I may have a recce to the ski slope at Castleford before venturing to Borovets on 27 Feb. As it costs £26 per hour, does anyone have any comments whether it's worth going or not? Juts wanted to be ahead of the game, so at least I know how to gear up before falling over!

I think it would be worth your while because when you get to Borovets your not having to spend your holiday learning to ski.....Only improving!!!!I learnt to snowboard there in the summer.....worth the money!!!

Its got to be up to you. I've been to Cas and sheffield dry slope. Sheffield is cheaper, but it aint propper snow. I did a learn to ski thing at sheffield a few years ago, they still do them now. You can do the same at Castleford, but they do it in a day where as Sheffield do it over about 5 lessons. My 1st time on real snow at pamps, I managed to skip the biginners class and go straight into the next class, but that isn't guaranteed. What you pay for 5-6 lessons in Sheffield pays for your ...

Castleford is excellent, going tomorrow with some friends, going to pamps next week.Best thing we did was trying it and well worth the price, get a lesson if you can

Many thanks for your comments. I'm going to go ahead and book for Monday morning. I have already booked my full ski package for Borovets but forewarned is forearmed! Just hope I don't show myself up in front of the 10-15year olds!

helloNot to be a party pooper but at 28£ an hour i would'nt bother you're going for a whole week with proper training from an instructor. it takes more than an hour to learn and after your hour all you might be is pissed off. And think how many wobbly pops could you get in borovets for 28£ .

I did Snozone in Milton Keynes and also Hemel Hempsted dry slopes both in the space of a week.
MK was £26 for a lesson of one hour and Hemel was £25.50 for a 90 minute lesson.
The differences were as follows:
Milton Keynes - advised me to do Level 2 even though I can do a snowplough turn, but am a bit nervous. Got there, got our skis, boots etc then the instuctor met the group and wasted 15 minutes telling us how to carry your skis and how to wear your sallopettes (gaiters outside ...

6 days later I went to Hemel Hempsted - they advised me not level 2, but level 4. I was even more nervous, but by the end of the group lesson, we were using the main slopes and everyone in our group had progressed to level 5. No wasting time teaching us all how to carry skis, just straight over to the slopes - once at tje beginning side stepping up the slopes just to see how we all got on and what level we were all at and then straight onto the button lift on the training slope. Encouragement was given at all times and the instructor was absolutely excellent. If you are going to Hemel, see if you can get Maggie as your instructor.
If you want a private lesson - at Hemel its £46 for a one hour lesson of one to one and are you sitting down, yes - good at Milton Keynes it is £125....
In my opinion, Hemel Hempsted was so much better than MK and I won't be going back to Milton Keynes in a hurry.

I went to Xscape on wed. I thought it was fab but I can ski (of sorts). You sound so keen about your skiing that I don't think it will make a difference unless you are going to spend a fortune at castleford. I think you would be better off saving your money towards a ski holiday next year. Or even spending it when you get back from bulgaria just doing recreational skiing. In the summer when it is much quieterHave a fab holiday.

Many thanks HCB, I have actually booked one lesson for Monday now, so at least I'm familiar with the gear. You have a great time next week, and I look forward to you posting your comments when you get back ie: the flight from Humberside and the holiday in general. Not long now........
