What is the standard of medical services available in bulgaria/rila area in event of an accident?re: accidents

We have been to Borovets twice and fortunately we haven't had to use the medical services.
In the first year someone in our ski group had a friend who broke their leg and had to go to the hospital at Samokov. I understand that it really was quite grim. If you look on the Borovets page here there is some information about medical care. Although it says the hospital is well equipped remember you are not in the UK!

Anyone who falls off the edge of a mountain is likely to come out with major injuries or death anywhere in the world...Standards are never likely to be as high as you would like - after all, you can go into an NHS hospital in the UK for routine treatment and come out infected with MRSA - as my friends Mum has and now faces the prospect of amputation just because a consultant didn't wash her hands!!!

Don't know about the Rila area but Bourgas hospital near Sunny Beach is grim. Son spent a week there last year after quad bike accident. Not to be recommended. Had to bring in own food, no bathroom facilities, no clean bedding for a week, run out of antibiotics.Saying that, the staff were fantastic, not their fault the hospitals are so poor. Check with your insurance company where they would send you if you had an accident.

Managed to bash the top of my shins just above my boots about three years ago. Basically the skin and flesh burst open leaving a 1.5inch gash. I went to the medical centre opposite the Rila and was dubious at first but is is clean and the doctor spoke great English. All equipment was the same as at home and I was cleaned thoroughly before having stitches put in. I was given painkillers and told not to drink for 24 hours........ yeah right!! Got totally smashed and got in at about 5am. ...

Got totally smashed and got in at about 5am. Off to the doctors next morning at 9am for a check up and got slapped wrists and more painkillers!! It cost me £50 excess on my insurance and I took the stitches out myself a week or so later. The scar is hardly visable unlike others I have from English hospitals.

I was in the medical centre this year after going out of control on a blow up sledge in front of the rila, I hit my head badly on the fence post resulting in needing 4 stitches to the back of my head, a passing skier helped in stopping the bleeding and an ambulance was waiting at the bottom of the slope but as I couldnt get myself there they sent a skidoo to take me to the medical centre, once there i was seen by a doctor and stitched up, I dont remember much of it but my husband said it was ...

They were really good and saw me every day afterwards cleaning my head up and administering antibiotics, tetanus and pain killers. I have no reason to worry about any future visits to the hospital now and have booked again for next year now.

A girl in our ski class broke her wrist in Pamps the first morning of our trip in March. The instructor was very helpful, despite knowing little english. The girl got a free ride on a skidoo off the mountain and back to the hotel / hospital. Good service considering.
I had to see doctors myself as I had a nasty fever - they're not shy of giving you decent sized injections of medicine! They know their stuff, more than I'd have expected although its not quite the same as the UK - you will ...
