I got back from Borovets yesterday and the runs down to the resort were in bad shape with quite a few closed. If you are a complete beginner there is snow right at the bottom where the snow cannons are. The Gondola was shut Thu and Friday due to wind but I think the snow on top is ok so long as you can get up there. If you are a fairly good standard and the gondola is shut you can get a taxi to a four man chair lift where there are some red runs with snow. Not much snow in the town so it looks a bit scruffy (they could do with some litter pickers). Meals out were good quality but not so cheap (around budget UK prices I would say). About £8 for a pizza and 2 pounds for a large beer at most places in town (although some deals on drinks). Soups and salads good quality and value for lunch I thought. Some resturants were quiet a lot of the time. I think more people on half board are eating in the hotels than in previous years. We liked the Titanic bar which was friendly and comfortable. The ski instructors we had were good and because you are with your group all day you get to know them. I saw a guy (I think he was a Bulgarian) who was knocked out, dragged by his ankle through the Rila lobby and dumped outside by another Bulgarian. Some people helped him and he came round after a minute or two. I don't know what he had done but to me nothing justifies this and it was upsetting to see. We did not see any other trouble though and many Bulgarians were good hosts. The touts outside bars and resturants could get wearing. Most (but not all) accepted "maybe later" without pestering you further. We stayed in the Flora which was not flash but acceptable and was in a very good location. We were B&B and the breakfasts were good. Watch the icy paths (I don't know why they don't put some grit/salt down). Red Dragon, Francos for a pizza, Derby and Borosport resturants were all good. Hope it snows for those going soon. Have fun, we did.
