The snow conditions were good on the Sunday and Monday and all of a sudden we had 24hrs of snow on the Tuesday which led to great skiing on the Tuesday / Wednesday. thursday / Friday great in the mornings but a bit slusshy lower down in the afternoons, the tempreature on the mountain I have never experianced before +12oC wow summer came this unfortunately will lead to bad snow coverage this week forward unless the tempreature drops and there is ...
What a week,

Good goggle tan first of all. The snow conditions were good on the Sunday and Monday and all of a sudden we had 24hrs of snow on the Tuesday which led to great skiing on the Tuesday / Wednesday. thursday / Friday great in the mornings but a bit slusshy lower down in the afternoons, the tempreature on the mountain I have never experianced before +12oC wow summer came this unfortunately will lead to bad snow coverage this week forward unless the tempreature drops and there is more snow as you could see the snow dissapering by the hour.

Slopes could have been groomed better but were good overall. Gondala queue was back outside the door most mornings but this is no more than a 10-15min wait. My familt (wife and two children) were in ski school and had the best instructor you could wish for a big thank you to "Sweetie".

As for the vilage much improvement from last year, more roads finished less potholes etc.

Now the but . Apartments Narcis by Balkan five star? In whos books, the standard of finish was terrible, bad floors uneven surfaces no lights NO LIFTS, we were told when we arrived "oh the lift is not working today". all it has not worked since they opened in January. Service in the hotel dreadful!!! Breakfast skip it do not waste your time and effort, it took me three days to get them to giv e my children cereal and every morning we had to ask for drinks, food was just brought and pushed in front of you, no choice just eat.

Last straw was when we were leaving I had to man handle three ski bags down three flights of stairs at 1.00am myself the night porter got upset because I was making noise and very rudely told me I should have phoned down to ask for help. Sir I would have if the phone was working!!

To say we were in the middle of a building site was being polite. The coach dropped you off two hundred yards from the reception as they can not get up to the front door no road. i would not recommend the apartments to anyone.

If anyone has bought propery in ansko i feel sorry for them. There must be another 10,000 beds (hotels/ apartements) being thrown up. the mountain is at capacity as it stands. I believe they are opening up a new gondala for next season but our instructor told us a law has been passed calle nature 2000 which bans the opening up of any more ski runs for a few years due to the destructive effect on the mountain / trees. So in a year or two 10,000 more people a week on allready crowded slopes, you will not enjoy big style.

after going to bansko for the last two years I will now take my leave and ski pastures new.

re: back from Bansko

Thats an interesting report Carver. We have booked for Bansko for next feb half term and are slightly worried.
Not worried about hotel - Hotel Perun which we think will be ok - but more about the queues and the amount of people around. Our only answer we can think of is to book private tuition and hire to try and make things easier. We just hope it will be ok as we are taking 8 non skier friends with us, Bulgaria being our recommendation!!

re: back from Bansko

its predicted snow tomorrow and a temperature drop this could improve slightly. we are going 18th March, is there any snow on the area where you come off the gondola, botton of Tomba?

And is Tombad open? they usual;ly close it when rocks are showing?

re: back from Bansko

Also just back from Bansko - with a great tan, like Carver's!
We stayed at the Perun - which was great! Couldnt fault it all.
We did queue for about 30 mins at Gondola a couple of mornings -
Re snow around Tombad - the run is still open, and there is snow in the main area - it was just getting very compacted and slushy around restaurant areas.
Hopefully snow will come for you!
