Just back from Borovetz with the family - 3 boys and husband. We had been to pamps for new year and not great experience due to transfers etc. This was my opportunity to show the family how great Bulgaria can be. We were not disappointed. The rila location is just perfect with the kids. Everything is so handy even down to the ski depot handing out your skis. Weather beatiful and even though snow a bit slushy towards end of week, we found it fantastic for cooling down on with nice cold beer. Our room was brilliant overlooking slopes and with fridge etc. Katys steak house lovely. Went ice skating early in the week and the 5 of us had such fun, said we would go back on last night - big mistake... wrecked from skiing, eating, drinking and packing - went down at about 7.30. Off the ice by about 7.45 with broken wrist - all i could think was thank god it didn't happen first time round. excellent doctor in rila bandaged it up as best he could because i wasn't trooping off to hospital seeing as we were leaving at 7 next morning so managed to get by with drugs and whiskey and got it sorted now in a big plaster. painful but could have been worse. Brilliant week and even might get them all back again next year. Pamporoovo i find is probably more intimate but borovets would be my choice with kids, It is fantastic not to have to get a bus in the mornings. ASlso all week not one queue for the lifts.

Delighted to hear you and your family had such a good holiday. My family are going this Sat and we are getting concerned about the snow situation and the fact that the resort seems to be closing down as we are arriving. Is this the case?
I'd be delighted to hear any advice on what is available to do. Also is it easy enough to get money from ATM machines? And do we need to take loads of warm gear?Where did you stay?Also is the ski hire gear rubbish ?Sorry to be such a bore!

we stayed at the rila and it was great. loads to do for the kids - painting, arcades, swimming. Bowling at the samokov. Snow should be ok for you at the top of the gondola station. we didn't need any of the woolies we brought as our jackets were enough with the beautiful sunshine, everything is for sale there at great value though even if yiuy did need to get an extra jumper. The ski equipment was fine. If you have small kids - make sure they give yiu a nice pair of short skis for the little one. i am sure you will be alright for another week - just outside the rila was melting at the end. Loads of lovely walks - not that that will impress the kids byt there are bears in the forest so that might be an incentive as they are waking up now after hibernation. The pizzas are great and the chips as well. Go ice skating as well as that should still be open. Enjoy and post on the board on your return.
