bansko - best hotel for an 14 year old and his Dad
the subject explains itself really. Going next February the 3rd, I am an expierienced snow boarder and want my son to learn ski-ing, and just wondered what hotel people would recommend and what the quality of tuition is like.
Considered the Alps, but decided on Bulgaria as it seems very good value.
Is it best to get accomodation on a B & B basis or have an evening meal?
Any advice greatly received and anyone travelling that week, with kids that age contact me!!
cheers,
Al

either B and B or self catering the hotel food is not great, the best hotel for location is the kempinski right at the bottom of the slopes 5 star but worth it as you can ski to the door. the strazites Not sure of the spelling is also in a good location about 5 min walk from the slopes and right in the centre, I believe they run a bus to the slopes. dont know what the tuition is like but have heard good reports although think the classes can be quiet large, can get private lessons for about ...

cost wise bulgaria is definatly good value a meal out with wine or beer cost about £10 to £15 for two. food on the slopes is cheap as well with lunch for too with drinks around £5.
hotel wise you may find it as cheap to book half board and just go out if you want in the evening, I ahev looked at B and B and dosent come in much cheaper, self catering though if you do it your self can be quiet cheap.

Hi Al.
We're goin end of next feb and are staying at the hotel lion in bansko. its ment to be really nice a little out of the way but walkin in soft boots is no prob. (they have a free bus too) we've booked through inghmas they got some really good offers at the mo. We got a superior HB room + board, boots, lessons and passes for £450 each.

The Kempinski is only skiable to if the bansko ski run is open. Also if you are going to eat out you have a decent walk into town from there. We have stayed in several hotels in Bansko and think that the Strazhite is perfectly situated for town and the gondola lift. It's also got a bowling alley. They do run a minibus but it's only a 5 min walk to the gondola. We thought the Hotel Lion looked OK but it was a little bit too far away from the action.

Food in the hotels is OK but budget for eating out, as my teenage son struggled to find anything eatable in the hotel. Many of the tour operators only do half - board in Bansko anyway. We've always travelled with Balkan with no problems. Good deals at the moment for early booking.

we stayed at the hotel lion in march.the hotel is about a 5 min walk from the gondala but the hotel run a mini bus which is free to and from the gondala.i was very impressed with the hotel nice big rooms friendly staff and a very modern bar the hotel could be anywhere in the world and would not look out of place.if you have booked with thompson make sure you get your ski pack as soon as you get off the plane.we met the rep on the first ski day at 10 am but this is far to late as we had to ...
