Bulgaria Ski discussion board

We are travelling to Bansko on 30th Dec. for 9 nights with 2 boys aged 16 and 11. They both thoroughly enjoyed a week there last year and already can't wait to go back. We travelled with Balkan Holidays for the 2nd year running, and despite several negative comments about this company, we so far have experienced no problems. We have stayed in the Bansko hotel and this year the hotel Bulgaria. Both were very good, with the Bulgaria having the edge as you ate in the restaurant, not a buffet type meal. Both comforatable with pools, saunas etc. Neilson's also travel to Bansko,but Balkan act as their agents in Bansko so you pay slightly more than with Balkan for the same services.We had a look at the Strazhite Hotel, which looked Ok but a bit impersonal -Made use of the bowling alley there.

Restaurants (known as mehanas) were all very good.There are loads of them - all slightly different with roaring wood fires and some with live music. The town is not really a shopping mecca, but quite interesting. Nightlife really revolves around your hotel and the mehanas. We found our kids were quite easily occupied in the evening - games rooms/ swimming pool/ bowling etc. The Bulgarians we met were ok with kids, but I suspect they are expected to be fairly well behaved. We had no problems with them going into bars/ restaurants etc. with us.
