Last year when the Women's downhill was on, they just closed off those runs, and concentrated on them to the determent and maintenance of the other runs! Considering it was half term week, and extremely busy not a good call. Hopefully they have realised it is important to hold these high profile events but also the paying customer must be taken into account.

I do not know how long the slalom races are, but the tomba black will be closed. above that I do not know ? maybe nothing else ? The Giant slalom closed the right hand side of the mountain , that is the top reds plus the Tomba, hopefully this course is much shorter.

They normally close off run 6 leading on to the tomba run 9 which is also closed, hopefully as skeg says they will continue to maintain the other pistes as well. Is it the womens race again?, some hot athletic eye candy!! Yum Yum. See you there.

The races this season are Europa Cup, not World Cup, and do not attract the numbers that the higher level would... They are slalom events, and hopefully will be run on black 9 or 9A... There will obviously be a little disruption but nothing like the womens downhill...
It is a double edged sword, these events, especially World Cup, bring a lot of exposure to the resort, and prestige... A lot of the improvements in resort (new mountain road, new areas at gondola etc) are purely down to the ...

It is a double edged sword, these events, especially World Cup, bring a lot of exposure to the resort, and prestige... A lot of the improvements in resort (new mountain road, new areas at gondola etc) are purely down to the fact that they are hosting events. In two seasons time Bansko will host its first mens premier event, FIS World Cup slalom Surprised If you think it was busy on the womens events, then brace yourself, the cowbell ringers will be in town, and all the madness that surrounds the World Cup circus.... personally i can't wait, its fantastic Razz

re: bansko piste clousures end of january?

Dependant on the amount of course preparation required, whether the course will need watering, will dictate the time the piste may be closed. Slalom does not require the length of course like a super G or downhill, and the safety requirements are less in the way of netting. I do not see it needing more than a couple of days before the event, and the re-opening will be almost immediately after the event.....
Granted, they could prove me totally wrong Wink

re: bansko piste clousures end of january?

Just read on www.pisteclosures.com that all pistes in Bansko are to be closed for the month on January due to these races taking place. They recommend the Ice fishing, and ice skating as possible alternatives for entertainment/exercise. Doesnt sound good.

re: bansko piste clousures end of january?

Steve C, thanks for your info, I shall be on my annual visit that week and was concerned at the disruption it would cause, I think you are right, if its the slalom they will probably just close 9 and 9a Tomba. On a positive note it will be a spectacle well worth a look.
