Bulgaria Ski discussion board

Hi there!

I'm a regular visitor of this board but not a frequent poster. But here is my report of Bansko (April 1st - 8th).

Because we liked Borovets and Bulgaria last year, we decided to to go Bansko, so we could compare both resorts. We always take our skiholidays during the Easter Holidays.

We stayed in the Strazhite hotel: nice hotel, 5 minutes walk from the Gondola. Our lovely room viewed the Gondola.
The food was ok: soup and starters (salads) were delicious. The only 'negative' remark of the Strazhite was the main course which was a bit monotonous. In my opinion the Samokov-kitchen was much better...

We had all seasons in one week: summersun, hail, rain, heavy rain, clouds and loads of (good) snow on the Todorka peak.
Skifacilites were excellent: modern lifts, comparable with any skiresort in the Alps. Also the gear was great.

Our favourite bar was the Sir Galahad which we frequented a couple of times: they served heavenly cocktails with a smile on the face. (Thanx Toni!!)
The Sir Galahad is in a backstreet in a new compound (Bularco I think). It's really worth a visit!
We visited one Mehana in Pirin Street, but this was a mishap: bad service and fiddling with the bill.

Conclusion: Bansko is a fine resort which can compete with its Western European counterparts. Allthough we missed the charm of cosy Borovets we had a fantastic week in Bansko!!!

Ik verkies de pistes van Bansko met het Samokov-hotel en de heerlijke barretjes van Borovets....zo'n resort zou ideaal zijn . Moest Thomas Cook Pamporovo inlassen in het gamma, zou ik dat zeker eens willen doen. Maar ik weet niet of er tijdens de Paasvakantie nog genoeg sneeuw ligt.......

De transfer Sofia-Bansko is wel erg lang. Normaal is dat zo'n 2,5 uur, maar wegens werken op één of andere hoofdweg, duurt dit 3,5 uur. De wegen zijn echter in niet zo'n goeie staat (helaas), maar de natuur onderweg en de authentieke Bulgaarse dorpjes zijn wel leuk om te zien...

Ik weet nog niet wat we volgend jaar gaan doen, misschien proberen we eens een ander Oost-Europees oord (Slovakije of Poiana Brasov in Roemenië).
Nog tijd genoeg natuurlijk....
