Hi everyone,
Just back from Bansko so heres the resort report.
SNOW.. loads of snow.. slopes were great as we had 2 days of heavy snow no ice.
Caution... the walkways on the streets are very slippery and nobody seems to bother with salt or any form of de- icing,so be cautious.
We had 4 days of very cold temps -20 -17 -20 -10 then it warmed up for the last 3 days with the temp going up to 0.
The exchange rate was 2.18 to 2.23 and stayed the same the whole time we were there.
Just in case anyone who is going isnt aware the skiing world championships are being held in Bansko on the 18th and 19th february (womens) and the mens is a week later so the resort will be very busy.
This was our first time in Bansko after 5 visits to Borovets
and we were very impressed with the resort and would say in our opinion that it was better.
I saw reviews on here before we left saying about the long queues for the gondola but we discovered that there is a bus service as well that is free for anyone with a weekly lift pass.It operates from the car park next to the gondola and is about 5 minutes quicker and works when the roads are clear.
The cheapest place to eat that we tried was opposite the barbeque restaraunt on the main road. We paid 90 levs for 5 of us and this included 2 bottles of wine and several masticas (similar to zambuca) The food was good but comes out all at different times but we had several meals here and it was always the same so we just accepted it and drank a little more.
In comparison we ate in the barbeque rest opposite and
it was 150 levs for 5 of us with less food and drink, but the food was ok.
The hotel we stayed in was the Kempinski and it was excellent in every way,we honestly couldnt fault it.
