Reports today 23/12/08 are saying its total rubbish and when I went before in March they were about the same.
So if I were to book a holiday for the end of Jan or the start of Feb judging on the season Dec-Mar these times would be the optimum time to go e.g. guaranteed snow. I know you can get good snow at other times but it can be a bit hit or miss.
i have had five full years in pamps and touch wood we have always had snow from mid jan to march, it the first two weeks that are always a little ropey

Pamps seems to be really suffering at the moment so maybe people are reluctant to hazard a guess as to what this year holds. Generally very early in Pamps seems a no no so maybe Feb but who can tell what the Snow Gods are intending! I always go in March (Bansko) and was looking back at historical records for all 3 resorts today to compare and it would seem that they are all down this year for this week in time. Hopefully things will improve.
We go Feb half term (mid-Feb) and have had enough snow to ski on every time. 2006 and 2008 were excellent years. The only 'iffy' year was 2007, when snow conditions were poor all over Europe. Even then, we were able to ski at the top of the mountain every day
Does seem to be more the norm for BG - late snow dump. It was in Bansko last year anyway. But who can tell - I think there is no certainty to any of it these days. Italy doing fab so far - previous years very poor/Balkans down on what they have had previously/biting cold in UK. Who knows.......
Just hope it comes good for all skiing at whatever time they may be away - me included!
