beware atm machines could be cloned - sunny beach had problems in the summer - my card had 20 cash withdrawals - 6 weeks after i returned - these crooks now working in the ski resorts - take care with your card

Good advice westy. Are they the same sort of problems as the UK ie cameras above the key pads so they clone your card and use your pin number.

Safest way is to take cash and get a safety deposit box at the hotel.

understand so - but i was very careful covering key pad when i put my pin in but they still got my details. bulgaria is so cheap - just returned from pamps on sunday - we took cash - used hotel safe and charged drinks, meals etc to our hotel bill. The more brits that are aware of the problems the better, bulgaria is a poor country so its obvious these crooks will work the market for as long as they can. We all need to get smart so their supply of cash dries up.

I found that we got a crap rate of exchange changing cash at the Hotel Pamporovo best rate for me was the ATM but I understand the concerns regarding cloning.

Also if the Hotel gives you a crap rate of exchange for cash and you want to add things to your room account to avoid this beware !! I had a few items oin my room bill which I hadn't ordered. They were deleted after I complained.
