hi, we booked our beginner board lessons and hire as part of a package through balkan and i was wondering if anyone could provide any info as to the quality of instructors/gear/etc and any other info that might be considered useful?
Agree with S.P.(apart from the dig about snowboarders).Eldest daughter has booked beginners lessons with Balkan. Bit of advice, get some impact shorts & wrist guards, could save you a lot of pain!!
hi ben, was thinking of buying some impact shorts but ultimately decided against it. like i said in the above post, i've skateboarded most of my life so i'm used to to being on my backside, spraining wrists and ankles etc. it's part of the thrill!
Good advice from Ben. Another thing to consider is a gum shield (not joking here) out in Canada last season got chatting to a serious boarder who uses a gum shield. It protects you lower lip when/if you do a face plant. We did see a boy in our hotel who's teeth had gone through his lower lip after a fall.
no need for impact shorts it just delays the pain for a day or so, I have been boarding for 6 years and i have not worn a pair of skis since, the adrenalin of nailing a high speed decent with a few jumps cannot be replaced by skis.
As others have said equipt just ok but it does not matter as if you have not boarded before you do not need quality gear. You will be hiring a helmet but I have not worn one yet but would recommend one, never seen a gumshield in boarding but again would recommend ...

I have been through hell when it comes to the first few holidays on a board but you cannot beat the feel of it.
If you skate board you will pick it up quickly as I did and did find it ok.
I would recommend a few dry slope lessons to get the basics so you can graduate out of your class and get on the Jnr slopes on your own quickly..
Good luck chaps,
When you out there Jamie?
