Jeff..
Im 50, have skied for 30 years or so, a fair surfer (Westcountry lad), and have never felt the need to bolt a ironing board to my feet... I can think of much better ways to abuse myself. Now seeing boarders on the mountain, stripping off in bars, exposing all the armour, look like Star Wars stormtroopers.. Ask yourself, why all the protection ??? Its because when you fall (and you will, a lot !!) you are likely to hurt your back, neck, wrists, arms, head, in fact, virtually every ...

Its because when you fall (and you will, a lot !!) you are likely to hurt your back, neck, wrists, arms, head, in fact, virtually every part of your body. Also consider that if you collide with another who has not got protection (skier ??) then you will be hitting them like an american footballer... As you can see i am not a fan. If you want to try something differant, get some big fat twintips, get in the off-piste, ski backwards, get into the park and hit some rails, jumps etc...
Like LizziSnow said, `boarding is the devils work'
Don't listen to the luddites above, Steve I am 47 next month partner 52 although we went to the so called 'dark side' many years ago, we never want to go back to 2 planks. Learning is a bit tedious but what fun you will have, I would really recommend some cheap padded shorts and maybe knee pads then learning won't hurt at all and it it a fast learning curve, it also makes any little jump or short slope a lot more fun than it is for skiers. Snowboarders are a fun group and learning in Bg is really affordable so I would say give it a go. A group of us on holiday got a friends mum into snowboarding as she struggled in her mid 60's to get to grips with skis, she loved snowboarding, only stayed on baby slopes but it put a huge grin on her face all week Do it.
Steve - "Star Wars stormtroopers" - lol. Cam and I were in sports shop the other day where they had these back covers and chest covers - Cameron made the comment he thought it was a Ninja Turtle outfit which made me laugh!
As always there will be supporters of Ski and supporters of Board. I see what Steve C says but then Snik made me wonder the other side of it. I guess only you can decide Jeff - why not do a 'taster' lesson and see what feel you get for it then.
thanks guys n gurls for your comments and advice, think i will just go for it as they say you are only young once lol and hey a graet believer in trying new things or is that refusing to grow up lol anyway will look out for some padded shorts thx
