Hi and Merry Christmas to all.
Going to Borovets next week in self catering apt and just wanted some advice...is it worth bringing a few bits& bobs!!?? or are there supermarkets there with everything available at reasonable prices???
Thanks.
my advice, take some coffee/tea and hot chos. then eat out all the time. Very cheap and lillte or no super markets in Boro. Been twice to Malina and Yagoda and always est out.

we took tea/coffee sugar and dried milk and cupasoups etc and ate out for diner and lunch
there are food shops around the rila shopping centre unsure as to prices for meal type food as we didnt buy more than milk from them
if you want proper food for dinner you will need to take a taxi to the main town which is samokov. 10 minutes away, 30leva in a taxi, food is very cheap and very good quality, especially from the open air market in the town centre. Alcohol is also much cheaper there. Not much english spoken there though taxi drivers can usually help. Also very interesting little town, but not very nice to look at.
have to agree with dave that samakov is a interesting town and the people are helpful but language may be a problem
some parts are pretty but well its each to their own tastse
taxi is cheap and the food and drink will be cheaper out of the resort and obviously more of a selection in food
we go there and enjoy
couldnt disagree with dave more, nothing wrong with the food in borovets, there is quite a few places to eat out in, there are a few shops where you can buy stuff, but not a lot
you will enjoy lots, prices were quite reasonable last year but up on the previous year significantly, lets hope this dosent hapen this year again
we havent said there is anything wrong with the food in Boro but for food shopping Boro shops arent many limited to what you can get
eating our in boro is cheap and great with large selection and brilliant places to choose from but some ppl enjoy cooking on holiday to

I took tea, coffee and hot chocolate etc and milk was readily available to buy in the shops under the Rila Hotel.
The other thing we had a problem with was knowing what we were buying as you get no clues from the written word which uses the Cyrillic/Russian alphabet. What we thought was ...

What we thought was margarine was infact mayonnaise!! We didn't mind as it was all part of the experience but could get frustrating if you do it lots!
Our ski instructor was happy to bring things in from Samokov for us but we didn't need it as we managed breakfast and ate out all the other times.
