borovets or bansko?

Hey guys, planning to visit Bulgaria 2-8 Jan. 2010 and need your help.I`ve been in Bansko a couple of years ago and found it a decent resort. This year I am thinking of going Borovets.Should I stick with Bansko? What about the snow potential mid-Jan?I am snowboarding and need some powder but I am ok with the slopes covered with aprox. 1-1.5 meters. What do you recommend.Thnx in advance!

re: borovets or bansko?

Based on sources I trust I'd say Bansko has better snow and terrain than Borovets. As your post only mentions conditions for boarding and not apres ski requirements I'd say stick to Bansko.

However if you want something different then go for it. Note that Borovets has a few drag lifts in the Markudjik ski area and they are very fast compared to what I've experienced elsewhere.

Is Bansko crowded during non-school term time?

During my one visit to Boro I got the impression 'better' skiiers tend to stay away so the red and black runs were virtually empty. Very Happy Cool

re: borovets or bansko?

Thanks mate. Ive bee in bansko during March 2008 and I would say it had great snow(around 1,5 meters) covering all slopes. As you said, I want to try something different this year, but don`t want to regret it.Seems like a good deal though.I ll give it a try. Thanks again

re: borovets or bansko?

Hey George,

More km of slopes in Bansko with plenty of opporunities to go off-piste while still keeping the tracks in sight. They revamped the chalin valog area for last season which has a couple of reds, although the start of them is definitely black and probably steeper than Tomba.

I haven't been to Borovets, but where Bansko was formed around an old town, Borovets is a completely man-made, so lacks some of the charm. On the other hand, I believe Borovets is more of a party town ...

re: borovets or bansko?

Thanks for the responses. I am from greece but now lleaving in the states. So, before coming back to greece for christmas period I plan to visit snowmass colorado for a couple of days. After that I want to keep in track with a good balkan resort. Maybe bansko,s blacks and off-pist would be a good idea but if boro has some pearls ther, why not! Thanks anyway
