re: borovets

Hi Steve,

Good choice of hotel, stayed there several times, last time 2 years ago. Stayed at Bor hotel this year. Never been at new year, but the staff are friendly and the drinks are a reasonable price the last time I stayed. Rooms are basic but clean, and the food is OK.

Always a bit chaotic the first day to get skis and boots etc if you have hired them (endless queues if you're late). Get the passes etc sorted as early as you can on the first day. Good places to eat out is a steak ...

Good places to eat out is a steak house at the bottom of the slope opp the Rila hotel on RH side - can't remember the name! (Mama Mia's??). Cheap drinks at the Alpin opp the Flora Apmnts ( English couple). Also another nice place to eat is called White Magic on the way to Gondola from Rila. Prices about UK pub prices for meals out (17-18 Lev for chicken with sauce - chips etc extra (5 Lev). Drinks etc are dearer on the ski runs - but not prohibitive.

I would recommend joining a ski school if yopu haven't already, your tour op should provide a beginners package at good prices. It's a good laugh having the lessons and you get to know other people as well. If you are all the same standard you can all go together in one class though - if that's what you want !. Hope this was a bit useful - anything else just ask. Have a good time.

re: borovets

You will have a great time...I know you will...we did.

Do however watch out for each other in the Buzz Bar (read thread 'warning Buzz Bar') and avoid hiring skis and boots from the Samakov hotel depot - very old equipment and poor customer service.
