bulgaria in summer

my family visited Borovets in Jan and where so enchanted by the Bulgarian way of life we would like to visit again in the summer, has anybody been....if so what is it like. I am told there are lovely walks and scenery etc which is great but are the bars and restaurants also open or will it be like a ghost town. Any info would be most welcome.

Cheers Booze

Borovets is pretty much a ghost town for most of the summer, some of the restaurants are open but only a few. However, over the hill in Beli Iskar is the national park, and its full of picnic areas and proper tracks alongside the river . Thye have been putting in a lot of pedestrian bridges over the river. You can stay in the Samakov Hotel for around 35e a night for the room, and funnily enough the staff are very attentive out of season Razz

You can also pop down to Samakov town sample the very cheap restaurants down there, and then of course there are things around like the Rila Monastery, probably the best of the lot, and of course you can spend hours walking over the bits youve skied over!!!!
It would be a quiet holiday, but it will also be cheap. Middle of summer you can expect temps upto 30c

Hi Mark

Try to go to Bansko. Its a little (real) town combinated with mountain

where you can eat and drink very cheap. Much cheaper than in Borovets.

hotel with very friendly personals. I think a double will cost you 40 lev included
breakfast.

Enjoy it
