Were going to Pamps in Janurary for our first proper snowboarding holiday. I'm not too keen on heights and have just read that the chairlifts reach a massive dizzy height of 80ft!!
I'm ok being high up on the mountain or in a plane but these chairlifts look as basic as you can get.. your just sitting on a wobbly chair 80ft in the air with a single bar holding you in?
Do they go this high in Pamps?

Also i'm learning to snowboard and just wondering if I have to keep my snowboard on to get on the chairlift? Been reading you have to slide of the chairlift with your back foot out of the binding so i'm not to confident on doing this straight up.
Re chairlifts, I like yourself are not too keen on heights, but I never suffered once last year in Pamps, I suppose they get quite high not sure about 80 foot though more like less than half of that.
Not being a boarder I am not sure about getting on and off the chair lift, a lot of the boarders lessons seem to go on at the top of the mountain on the blue run over the back, so I would think that they would not expect total beginners to go on with the boards attached.

Hi Lindsay

When are you there in Jan, we are there the week of the 15th staying at the Markony by the slopes.
no problem with the heights on the chairlift.as for taking your snowboard on the lifts pete's right when you first start it is much easier to carry it but when you get more experienced and confident boarders tend to leave thier front foot in the binding as this saves time when you reach the top
To get on/off chair lifts you tend to find its quicker to skate a la skateboarders with one foot pushing you along, rather than running and ducking from the chair lift trying to smack you in the back of the head!
It gets easier with practice, also useful when you hit those dreaded flat traverses! Damn those skiers look so smug as they skate past you (just beg for a tow from them)
However, on the Gondolas in Scotland they have a rack outside to stick your skis/boards. Is this the same on the chair lifts then? Or do you just somehow hold the board on your seat. (be a bit tricky if the seat was full)
