Balkan Holidays have the largest selection of villas, offering Malina Village, Yagoda Village, Sofia & Rachel Villas (Which are great and in the centre) and the Iglika Villas. As neil said a taxi will cost minimum 70 levas. It will have to be a large taxi to fit in with 4 pax and 3 suitcases.

Why do you want to travel without the service of a tour operator? Making your own arrangements is all too much trouble when you only travel with for a week. Book through a tour operator and they ...

re: chalet & taxi borovets

Fraser is the man you are after. He has just bought a property in the centre of Borovets which he is as we speak converting to a catered chalet. I'm sure that will fit the bill!

If not look at the link below "booking accommodation" and Darrell and I have written about the Alpin Hotel which had suites within the hotel and seperate chalets on the slope behind them. Couldn't be more central if you tried and they are certainly very comfortable.

Whether or not you save money travelling to Borovets independantly really does depend on when you travel. Having to go half term week then you are quids in if you get a good flight price. Any other time then you really do need to look very carefully as the Bulgarian Hotel prices tend to be the same for the season and therefore don't take into account what we consider to be busy and quiet week.

Hope this helps - from someone who has travelled independantly!
