We were both new skiers last year and bought their own brand gear (Quecha, or something like it). The jackets and salopettes were great, socks fine but get better gloves - I did a lot of falling over and by the end of the day, mine were cold and wet!
You can spot the poseurs - the ones' who would love to be strutting around the expensive Alps resorts but can't afford both gear AND the ski holiday! Luckily these are few and far between

ENJOY!!
Bought my gear 8 year ago in borovets and still going strong after skiing twice a year over that time.Only thing is im 58 and couldnt give a dam about labels and my gear keeps me warm and dry.
dbut
Borrowed Lidl skiwear 1st time we went (just in case!) and it was fine.
Bought our own gear in the sales April time ish when we got back, end of season good bargains to be had if you dont care about "this seasons fashions".
Try TKMAXX, they do great gear, lots with 'designer' labels, but cheap as chips compared to the dedicated snow shops. Mostly last years models, but if you wear this years gear you go to Europe to pose.
Wait till you see the locals, they're still wearing shell suits, and look good in them.
