Going to Borovets for 2nd time 22nd January. We we advised to take travellers cheques in sterling last year which we did. Can anyone advise differently to save us commission charges.
We took t/cheques, didnt get charged commision buying or useing, that was in the samokov, also took levs out eith us and will use the atm's, doing the same this year 8 jan,
We took sterling cash as we have always understood that T/chqs attract a high amount of commission.
We put cash in the safety deposit boxes along with travel documents with no trouble.
We have also used the cashpoint machine at the Gondola - exchange rate good.
Best rate I got this week was from the hole in the wall at 2.762 lev to the £ and thats after a £1.50 charge is taken out. Worst was from the hotel at 2.5. I saw 2.4 on offer at Sofia arrivals hall and 2.67 in the departures ( but they were closed at 2030 hrs)
I was in the town Samokov a few weeks ago and was getting 2.82 lev to the pound (cash).
May be worth the short journey if you are changing a lot. Taxi fare should only be about a fiver.
I think you have enougth advice to go on there, i normally go for the take sterling option. Im also going to boro on the 22nd will be my 4th time, see you there.
Just got back from Boro. We only took cash and had no problem at all. we found the best exchange rates were at the bank just up from Peters bar approx 2.86 lv per £.
