re: day trip bansko-sofia?

It's a fair old trek - there is a train but as i recall it takes at least 6 hrs. Bus I would imagine would be closer to 4. Your best bet is probably using a transfer service - even that will take 2.5-3 hrs each way. Both ways in 1 day would be a long one...
As for safety - really don't know as never done it but I'm sure there are other on here that have.

Hi charis, as regular visitors to Bansko my son and I have visited Sofia for a half day, we were taken in by our tour op at the end of out trip on departure day.

As McMoodle says by public transport its a trek, if theres a group of you maybe a transfer company is a posibility, Steve C may be able to suggest something.

Another possibility may be to hire a car.

As for safety, I think Sofia is no more risky than any other major European city, be sensible and you shouldnt have any problems, it can be a lovely day out as there are many attractive and interesting places to visit, one of the poular guides would give some reccomendations.

It is nice to see that someone would like to see a little more of the country, it is so easy to go direct to resort and then home without seeing any of the culture or history of the country.

Enjoy your trip and good luck.
