do we book?

does anyone know what the hotel orlovetz is like? we are thinking of booking over new year. does anyone know how busy it is at that time of the year (ski lift queues etc)? are there any events on that mean the pistes will have restricted access? is the snow good then? we are thinking of booking direct with bulgariaski, what is the general experience of this company?
if anyone can help we'd be grateful.

re: do we book?

hi kate,
we went to the orlovetz mid jan last year and it was a fab hotel we have booked to stay there again end of jan next yr. it is right in the middle of the resort and you get the coach to the slopes from the hotel opposite. i know the weather over new yr wasnt that good this year but dont know about previous yrs cant comment on queues as havent been at that time. we had a good deal with inghams.
hope this helps a little

Hi Kate
We have an apartment just next door in Snezhanka. Orlovetz is supposed to be lovely. Location is great - nice and central and the buses to the piste start every morning from outside Snezhanka so you don't have any walking to do.

New year however, socially is great - skiing may not be. Its risky. We went for 10 days 2 yrs ago (over new year) and didn't ski as the snow was so poor. Only the green run was open so did a little with my 4 yr old but my ski's never left the apartment. ...

Only the green run was open so did a little with my 4 yr old but my ski's never left the apartment. Didn't matter as we had friends to visit, shopping for bits for the apartment etc but I would have been very disappointed if I'd gone for the skiing.

So - you probaby won't have any issues with lift queues.
My Advice would probably be to leave it till Late Jan, or better still - February as the snow is more likely to be good then.

Hope this helps

re: do we book?

Hi Kate,

My sister stayed in the hotel orlovetz, She said it was very nice and value for money and she'd happily recommend it!! As for Bansko @ New Years, its hit or miss as regards the ski conditions but its always crowded... I went 3 years ago and the Ski conditions were fine (a little icey but okay) and it snowed down for 2 days during the week we were there, so it was fantastic. however I also went for new years 2009/10 and the conditions were very poor, about a third of the runs were ...
Hi Kate,

My sister stayed in the hotel orlovetz, She said it was very nice and value for money and she'd happily recommend it!! As for Bansko @ New Years, its hit or miss as regards the ski conditions but its always crowded... I went 3 years ago and the Ski conditions were fine (a little icey but okay) and it snowed down for 2 days during the week we were there, so it was fantastic. however I also went for new years 2009/10 and the conditions were very poor, about a third of the runs were closed due to lack of snow, which meant the open runs were even more crowded than normal... Both years the queues were hectic, if you're not down about 30 mins before the Gondola opens you'll be queueing at least an hour plus as once up on the slopes, and some of the chair lifts you'll be waiting 30 minutes plus come lunch time! Ive been twice in late February and both times conditions were fantastic and the queues were very very small.... 5/10 mins for the gondola and no queues for chair lifts! If it has to be new year for you, then you'll have to be prepared to take a chance on the conditions and have the patience of a saint to queue!!

Hope it works out for you!!

re: do we book?

May sound daft but I thought the orlovetz and Snezhanka are in Pamps not Bansko. The coment on Bansko is spot on but not much help if you are going to Pamps
