Laura, we normally stay in the samkov hotel but this year they couldnt accomodate us because we wanted three beds and a cot, so opted for the ela as its just across the road and close to the gondola, and im a lazy git who believes skiis were invented so you dont have to walk The ela is obviously smaller than the rila and samkov, but is family run and the staff were a lot friendlier than the staff in the samakov who can be a bit grumpy. The rooms were easily on a par with the samo, in fact the design is almost identical, comes with tv and thats about it, plenty warm enough, cleaned every day. The bar is 'franchised' and the guys running it are great, try out the 'tom cruise/cocktail' impersonation. Get a saftey deposit box 30 lev for the week, they also sell english papers, and fresh fruit.
The breakfasts were fine both hot and cold great coffee machine, the toasters are better than the moving grill in the samo. I cant tell you about dinner because we always eat out, for variety and to catch up with friends. The downstairs has sauna and gym (extra cost) theres pool tables and t tennis for all the bar has a lovely real fire and overall the hotel is kiddy friendly (inghams creche is based in this hotel) thats about it really, if you have any specific questions fire away

Thank you so much. You have managed to put my mind at rest! Its our first wedding anniversary on the second day we are out there (Sunday 6th). Could you recommend a nice restaurant for us to eat at on that night??
We stayed in the Ela last year and again this year at half term. It's a smashing little hotel. The staff are really friendly and cannot do enough to help you. Food is OK. Have a good hol.

depends if you would like good food in a fairly quiet atmosphere then either the 'asmata' which is practically opposite the ela, or the greene king which is out of the ela turn right past the gondola entrance about 50 yds on your left, both have log fires, and are quite romantic.
If you want something a little livlier and like steak try 'katys' which is on the right hand side near the buzz bar (you cant miss the banner)
