anybody booked for the new emerald hotel in bansko?! we are going at the end of jan but apparently some facilities are not completed! great!! can anyone big up bansko to make us feel any better?
It's not that 'new' - well some part are as they are adding on I believe to what is already there.
Stayed there last year in a private rented apartment. Emerald is part hotel/part apartments I gather. Now I stayed there on my second trip to Bansko which was 1st week April and unfortunately the pool/spa was not working. The only reason for this is that I was about the only person in the hotel - resort more or less closing down for end of season that week - and they were having works ...

The only reason for this is that I was about the only person in the hotel - resort more or less closing down for end of season that week - and they were having works done on it supposedly. I still think it was closed purely because no one was there! The owner I rented through was not happy because he had understood facilities to be available all year round but apparently this is quite common in Bansko.
Anyway a group of pals of mine stayed in Emerald on our earlier trip in mid-March and they all said it was fine. Restaurant very nice apparently as were the pool/spa facilities. I am going back on 8 March and hope to utilise these facilities this time.
It is excellently situated just a litle way from the gondola (it is almost opposite the Kempinski).
Currently staying inthe Kempinski and really enjoying...but thinking of staying at the Emerald as it is just over the road from us and quite a bit cheaper...looks nice and situation is fine for slopes!
Definitely a lot cheaper CJ! I stayed at the Kemp while other were in Emerald - lovely hotel but my son was ill for most of the week annoyingly so we spent a lot of time stuck in the bedroom. It was such a waste of money as he didn't want to eat anything, I was limited with what I could do, didn't make good use of facilities. Shame but just one of those things I guess. Anyway after hearing how others liked the Emerald and having seen ...
I look forward to hearing how you get on Sarah.

Anyway after hearing how others liked the Emerald and having seen where it was - and deciding never to spend out ££ on the like of Kemp again as my son always seems to get ill or something (kids!) I went in the April. Already had an EasyJet flight booked in case I went anywhere and was given contact for an apartment. That is what I am doing this March - own flight and book direct - cost of those £370 for me and son! Need to get ski hire and passes on top but it a lot cheaper way to go. In the meantime, hope you are enjoying Kemp and that the skiing is good in Bansko.
Think we would have saved about £200 per person...but hay, enjoying at the Kemp so that is the main thing. But definately going to try the Emerald next time around! Got to spoil my Wife see...earn my brownie points and all that!
so did you all book your hol seperately as in flights and place to stay? this time round booking as a package it cost us a fortune!! who do you book through for your rooms?
I have found booking with the same operator usually works out cheaper. You can book with several operators...but we have found Balkan to be the best for us.
