exchange rates

Just a cautionary note regarding exchange of Money. There are a few postings about this, with info from many experienced people, especially PP. I would like to make the following observation....you do need to be a bit 'savvy' when it comes to money change. last january the national bank rate was 2.83 leva to 1GBP in Plovdiv--however Pamporovo business people had cottoned on to the fact that they had a captive audience-as a result the 'general' resort rate was only 2.5-2.55 leva--the exception being the 'usual' contact in BJ's where you could get 2.7.

At the moment the rate is even lower at the banks as the Leva is now tied to the Euro, and the pound has slipped to the Euro. A rough guide is only 2.65-2.72 leva to the pound in Varna, so I would guess that Pamporovo rates will again be substantially lower. A thread further down someone indicated they were currently being offered 2.65 by one travel agent or the other (cannot remember which one)-whereas another was only 2.45. I would suggest, at this time based on current exchange rates, and last years dismal rate at Pamporovo in most places, 2.65 is not a bad catch. Of course this can change if the pound strengthens against the Euro.

re: exchange rates

all good points raised.
the pound is currently slipping against the euro and i dont expect it to turn around unless we have an interest rate rise.as stated in an earlier post thomas cook=2.41 lev lunn poly 2.62. this has slipped from 2.65 4 weeks ago.
spoke to the manager and this is due to weaker pound and lower demand for the lev. Wink
