couldn't tell you names sorry (not that observant clearly Very Happy ) but if you venture into the town there are plenty traditional mehanas around, you can go in and look at the menu, if you don't like what you see then move on!

Bansko is a lovely town and there are enough places to eat somewhere different every night!

As for packing... for skiing you'll need salopettes/trousers, jacket, thermals and a mid layer plus decent socks.

For casual wear the choice is yours but make sure you take a jumper as it does get pretty nippy Very Happy

Have a fab time and save some snow for us Booze Wink

re: fav bars and restaurants?

Got the ski gear Rach - minus thermals for me - couldn't find any in Preveza Greece .... casual was my worry. My youngest and I are just 'snowmen makers and sledge (at a push)' eldest and hubby are skiing. Have to keep giving myself a 'good talking to' about fear of the Gondola - can't show fear in front of eldest! Hope my family appreciate all this ..... probably not as they are so used to me organising their lives!
Give me an idea on casual - do the mehanas get hot? Do I need layers so I ...

Ha Ha, your secret is safe with me Very Happy

The Gondola ride is very scenic, just sit in between people and you'll feel more comfortable, they sit up to 8 people Smile Also it's very sheltered by trees so even if a bit breezy you don't really feel it.

I would take layers to add and remove at will as the mehanas do get hot. At the beginning of the year in town We were ok walking around with jumpers/hoodies on an eve but once or twice did need the extra layer i.e both a jumper and a hoodie! ...

I'd say typical evening wear was jeans, t-shirt, jumper, coat (like a fleece) hat and gloves... if it was a warmer evening (2-3 degrees) we sometimes omitted the coat but it depends on how you feel with the cold as in England the cold cuts through you where as in BG it is a dry cold so easier to cope with!

Up on the mountain if you intend to go casual at least wear waterproof shoes and a ski jacket to keep you warm as it can easily get to feel -20 with wind chill if not lower!!! Booze

re: fav bars and restaurants?

You are reminding me of walking home in Ilkeston, Derbyshire on New Years Eve MANY years ago in sleet wearing just stillettos and a party dress - NO TIGHTS!!!! I arrived home with blue legs and icicles hanging off my hair!!! No wonder I fainted yearly from chilblains!!! That was many , many years back and I have now adopted the Greek way of fur coat on 20c just because it's 'wintertime' on the calendar! I own a clothes shop and I had a trespass ski jacket for sale - a Preveza woman (we have ...

I own a clothes shop and I had a trespass ski jacket for sale - a Preveza woman (we have the mildest climate in Greece) said the coat was not warm enough for a Greek winter!!! lmao!!!
I pointed out the pocket for goggles etc and she still was not convinced it would withstand the 'harsh' winters of a low of 14c!

re: fav bars and restaurants?

PS I intend to wear the full ski gear minus skis - I bought the buggers and I'm wearing them! snow or no snow!!!! My sister said I will be exactly like Bridgett Jones! (same size as well)
Back to the Gondola - is most of the way flanked by trees either side or are you swinging about in midair?
